car DVD player, backseat DVD player, vehicle DVD player, seat DVD player, passenger DVD player
A headrest car video is a great entertainment tool to have on-board your family car.
It is especially useful when you have a bunch of kids tagging along with you on a long trip. The peace and quiet helps you, the driver, focus on the road instead of having to deal with kids throwing a hissy fit in the backseat.
However, a car DVD player doesn't automatically mean you dont need to interact with your kids during the trip.
Its such a waste to have your kids staring at a screen for hours on end when you can spend this time bonding with them.
There are a few games and activities you can play in conjunction with a passenger car video. Here are some of the more interesting ones you can play with your kids while the backseat DVD player runs behind your headrest:
Sing-Along Karaoke
Just slap on a music disk on your headrest car video and sing along with the kids.
This is perhaps one of the simplest and safest activities you can play with your children. You dont need to take your eyes off the road, and singing doesn't really require a lot of concentration on your end.
If you are not quite familiar with the song, then you can simply hum along while the kids sing. Its not quite as satisfying as singing along with the lyrics on the vehicle DVD player, but at least your kids know that youre trying your best.
Fruit Basket
This is another classic road trip game, except with a slight variation so the backseat DVD player comes in.
First of all, pick out a movie that features a lot of vehicles. Remember that movie from Disney called Cars? Lets take this movie, for example.
Now instruct your kids pick out a car they see in the movie and take note of the cars colors before pausing the video. Pick out a fruit to represent that color.
Now this is the fun part: have the kids shout out the fruit when a vehicle matching the color of whizzes by.
The first one to shout and point at the car gets a point. Once ten points have been accumulated, resume the movie, pick another fruit to match the color of the next car that pops up and start the round all over again.
Hijack That Story
A headrest car video is great for movies, but you can always subvert the plot and turn it into a family game you and your kids can play.
First of all, play a movie that everyone in the car is familiar with - even you, the driver. Have the kids pick out a random scene in the movie and use it as a starting point for the hijack.
Have one of the kids start off with a sentence describing the movie scene. Have someone else continue the scene in a single sentence. Move in a clockwise fashion to pick out the next speaker.
Once someone makes a mistake in the plot, the first person to shout hijack!will be given a point.
Play the movie and advance it to the scene in question. If the hijacker is correct in calling out the mistake, the hijacker gets a point. If the hijacker is wrong, it will be his or her duty to pick out another scene or another movie on the headrest DVD player.
Guess That Movie
This is a fun game to play when youve got a stack of disks to play on the passenger seat DVD player - especially when you plan to stop for a meal sometime soon.
Have the kids stick a DVD in the movie. Instruct them to skip to a random scene in the movie and hit the play button with the sounds on. Youll have thirty seconds to correctly guess the movie.
Have the kids put on another disk in the headrest car video or skip to another random scene in the same movie.
If you guess wrong three times in a row or ten times total, then you treat the kids to an ice cream cone on the road. If you guess right three times in a row or ten times total, then the kids have to massage you from head to foot.
A little risk makes the game much more worthwhile.
Remember these games the next time you go on a road trip with your kids. Theyll make the trip much more fun while transforming your headrest DVD player into an entertainment system everyone can enjoy!
