Her Name Was New York

New York, affectionately named the Big Apple is one of the most popular cities in the world. It combined the conventional animated Disney world and the fast paced live-action world of New York. However, the film Phonebooth, released in 2002, starring Colin Farrell and Keifer Sutherland was set in New York but was actually filmed In Los Angeles. The film crew took some shots of Times Square in order to establish the films location but the rest was shot in a street in Los Angeles.

As well as Alicia Keys paying tribute to New York, Paloma Faith, a 25 year old jazz/soul singer from Hackney, London recently wrote her song referencing the famous city aptly titled; New York. It reached number fifteen in the UK charts and its highest ranking abroad was number eight in Finland. The song was originally released in 2009 but was re-released featuring a cameo from Ghostface Killah in 2010.

Television series that use New York as their setting include Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and the sitcom Will and Grace. Matt Groening, who created The Simpsons, also set his futuristic animated comedy Futurama in New York in the year 3000.

A common theme for most movies, songs, TV shows, or books set in New York is love. A recently released film called is about a group of New Yorkers finding it difficult to find love in the big apple.
