Why You Should Consider Switching From SD TV to HD TV Right Now

In recent years, there has been considerable interest among the general population in Australia about HD (High Definition) TV viewing. If you are an avid TV-viewer, who cannot imagine going through a week without watching his favourite shows, then it is quite likely that you have also heard something about how HD TV is better than standard definition (SD) TV. Don’t worry if you do not know what SD TV is - if you are using an old TV aerial you purchased close to a decade ago, then you are definitely watching SD quality TV. But is a switch to HD worth the investment? How much will your TV-viewing experience be improved, if you invest in an HD TV and a digital aerial? Let’s find out!
What is the big deal about HD TV?
Well, for starters, did you know that any picture you watch on telly is made of lines of dots placed on the screen, at regular distances? When you watch movies in full colour, the dots change colour 24 times or more every second. Now your old SD TV can have a maximum of 720 dots horizontally in a line, and 576 dots vertically. A 1080p HD TV, on the other hand, can have as many as 1920 dots horizontally and 1080 dots vertically. That means you will experience far richer colour and see a lot more colours overall, than you could ever see on an SD TV.
Digital movies look their best on HD TV
Well, this should not come as a surprise. If you frequently watch films that were shot or made digitally, using animation and HD cameras, then your old SD TV will never be able to show you the true colours (pun intended) of such films. For instance, watch Avatar on blu-ray using an HD TV at a friend’s place and then try watching the DVD version on your old SD TV. You would not be able to believe how the old TV sets destroy the picture quality of such films. Bottom line - if you wish to watch HD movies, then getting the proper HD TV and investing in a digital aerial are your best bets.
Do you have electronic products at home, which can stream HD content?
Do you own a PlayStation 3 or Xbox360 gaming console, for instance? Those devices are capable of streaming HD digital video as well; so, if you own any such devices, then switching to an HD TV would certainly allow you to enjoy the full picture quality those can afford. Also, you can easily hook up those devices to an Internet connection, and enjoy movies being streamed from online movie rentals. This easily makes the switch worth the price. Your old SD TV can hardly render half the picture quality these devices can provide, anyway.
HD devices enhance the audio as well
Well, this should be pretty obvious. Since the HD TV sets enhance the picture quality, those should also be able to enhance the quality of sound you get, right? Indeed, they do so! Any song you listen to on an HD TV will have a significantly better audio quality than what you can get on your old SD telly. Just be sure to get a digital aerial and call in professionals for proper antenna installation, and you would be able to enjoy the best sound technology can offer.
Finally, there is one major reason why you should consider the switch to HD. Did you know that the government of Australia is planning to discontinue all SD transmission and switch to HD for every channel, even the Freeview ones? Indeed, your old telly might soon become pretty useless, along with the old antenna you have on the roof. So, consider planning the switch to HD today. You would not want to go through your remaining life without watching telly from the comforts of your living room, would you?
