What Kinds of Videos Should I Post on YouTube?

For a video to "Go Viral" on YouTube and get a lot of views, it has to appeal to a broad market of people interested in the subject matter. Here's a short list for some ideas to post videos on your YouTube account.
Show Off
If you're trying to become known as a personality on YouTube, start by making a short video introducing yourself and showing off a little. Sing a song, do a dance, tell a few jokes or stories, and generally be appealing. It's about getting your name out there and having people understand that you're an interesting person with interesting viewpoints. This first video will be one people come to frequently when they first discover your YouTube channel. Make it a good first impression!
Vlogging
Vlog's, or Video Blogs are getting more and more popular. This is usually just a "talking head" style of video where you tell people about what's going on in your life. Make it interesting, don't use a lot of filler words (Um, like, sort of, things like that), and genuinely be who you are in the video. Don't be afraid to let your real personality shine through. Remember, people come to YouTube to be entertained primarily, so be entertaining. You're sure to develop a following soon!
Skits
Get a friend and put on a short play. Even better, film yourself as two different characters interacting with each other. Make it funny and people will watch it.
I've always liked the classic "Diet Coke/Jackie Chan" commercial. Basically, Diet coke agrees to do a stunt with Jackie Chan in a movie. The shot opens with Diet coke, his agent, and Jackie Chan talking in an office. The agent demands that Diet Coke have a stunt Double, to which Jackie says no problem. The scene cuts to a view of the movie being "shot", when they cut, call for the stunt double, and place a pepsi can in Diet Coke's place.
Fun Ads
If you're promoting a business, event, or non-profit, humor is your best friend. Think of the "Old Spice Guy", Dos Equiis "Most interesting man in the world", Jack Links' "Messin' with Sasquatch" videos, and other fun ones like those. Your audience has a sense of humor, so making them laugh is a great way to engage and excite them about your products.
The general rule of thumb is have a good time, show people that you're having a good time, and generally focus on being entertaining and informative. Video is a much lighter form of entertainment than most others, and it has much more flexible rules and standards. So have fun, be a personality, and go forth and video!
