Google Video - A Fantastice Viewing Experience

One of the latest offerings from Google is the online video store. Google video offers the platform for you to search, preview, watch and even purchase from their collection of movies, music videos, TV shows etc. This fast growing collection of videos includes hits from CBS, ABC, etc, NBA games, music videos from SONY BMG, as well as news and historical content from ITN. The US National Archive also makes available the historic films. And the list is growing by the day.
Though this service was initially available only in the United States, users in most of the countries can now access it. However, there is an option available to content providers to restrict the access to only users from certain countries of residence. Having said that, it is possible to outsmart the geographical filtering.
Though there are lots of sites that provide the facility of accessing the videos of different kinds, Google video also allows you to host your personal videos in case you want to share your personal production. You can allow your video to be available for free or you can fix a fee for your creation. All you need to do is to sign up with Google and upload your video. There are some requirements that need to be followed while uploading your work. These instructions are easy to follow and are available at These videos are screened for their content and copyright before being available for download. You can also provide your URL as a link from your video. And to top it up, you still retain the copyrights and other legal rights to your videos!
It also has its own downloadable version of Google video player. It is a VLC media player-based application, which runs on Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X.
One of the major problems that you could face at Google video is the quality of the video you are watching. Though this problem is not only with Google video because the video playback quality depends on various factors like the quality of the original video and the efficiency of conversion into the video formats supported by Google video. The other problem is the lack of transparency with the parameters of evaluation for acceptance for a personal video. Hence, at times, it becomes difficult to understand why the video was not accepted for upload. One of the other major complaints that people have reported while uploading the videos is the random appearance of the error message saying ‘uploading failed’, without citing a reason for it.
On the whole, it is a notable effort by Google and hopefully they would be working on improving the glitches. Given the high standards maintained by Google, viewers can expect to be pleasantly surprised by the continuous improvement that the site is expected to undergo.
